Gulfsands’ General Manager Omar Hamad recently travelled to Aleppo to see, first-hand, the impact of some of the Gulfsands-funded Youth Education Initiatives, which have been delivered in partnership with Phoenix Space and the Syrian Society for Social Development (“SSSD”).

Mr. Hamad met with SSSD representatives and visited the Salihin Training Centre, which provides children from some of the city’s most disadvantaged families with safe spaces for creative activities, recreation, and, now with Gulfsands’ support, advanced learning opportunities through Phoenix Space’s “STEM Spark” and “Digital Technologies in the Workplace” programmes.

By empowering children and youth with the skills to lead in science, technology, and innovation, Gulfsands and its partners are laying the foundations for a brighter, more inclusive, and hopeful future. During the visit, Mr. Hamad met with Ms. Retta Hanna, General Manager of SSSD Aleppo, who expressed gratitude for Gulfsands’ support while also highlighting the pressing challenges facing local organisations, including shortages of facilities, funding, and logistical resources. Mr. Hamad reaffirmed Gulfsands’ commitment to working alongside its partners to expand access to these essential programmes, which will reach at least 160 children and youth across Aleppo and surrounding rural areas.

As Gulfsands prepares to return to its energy field operations in Syria, we will look to strengthen and expand these initiatives, with the shared goal of reaching more young people and scaling their impact for Syria’s long-term recovery.
