Last week saw a momentous occasion when the Gulfsands’ General Manager was able to make the first official visit to Block 26 in almost 15 years.

Eng. Omar Al Hamad (centre above) made the trip with representatives of the Syrian Petroleum Company (“SPC”) and the joint operating company Dijla Petroleum Company (“DPC”). The trip included visits to both of Gulfsands’producing fields, Khurbet East and Yousefieh as well as related infrastructure and was an important first step in Gulfsands’ process to recommence its active role as Operator of Block 26. Eng. Al Hamad confirmed that he was pleased to see that the fields remain functional and was able to witness official SPC trucks transporting Block 26 crude oil destined for the Banyas refinery -another huge milestone for the re-emerging oil and gas industry in Syria. Further health, safety, security and environmental assessments as well as technical assessments of the wells, facilities and infrastructure are now required, as Gulfsands works closely with SPC to return the field to full, safe and secure operations, as soon as practicable.
