Job Summary

The Senior Production Technologist is responsible for optimizing, monitoring, and improving well and field production performance through the application of production engineering principles, well performance analysis, artificial lift technologies, and production surveillance practices. The role ensures safe, reliable, and cost-effective hydrocarbon production while diagnosing well and reservoir-related production issues, identifying production enhancement opportunities, and supporting the design and implementation of well interventions, completions, and new production technologies to maximize recovery and operational performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and optimize well and field production performance to maximize efficiency, reliability, and hydrocarbon recovery.
  • Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis of well performance, production, and equipment issues.
  • Perform well performance monitoring, nodal analysis, and production system modelling to identify production enhancement opportunities.
  • Design, optimize, and troubleshoot artificial lift systems (e.g., ESP, sucker rod pumps, gas lift, PCP) to maximize well productivity.
  • Plan, justify, and supervise well interventions, stimulation treatments, workovers, and well testing programs.
  • Manage sand production, water management, scale, corrosion, and flow assurance issues across wells and production facilities.
  • Collaborate with Subsurface and Reservoir Engineering teams on completion design, perforation strategy, and field development planning.
  • Develop and implement process improvements to reduce downtime, production deferment, and operating costs.
  • Support production planning and ensure operational targets are achieved safely and efficiently.
  • Evaluate, implement, and maintain production technologies, automation systems, and digital solutions.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, HSE, and Engineering teams to improve well and field performance.
  • Analyze production data and prepare performance reports, KPIs, and recommendations for management.
  • Ensure compliance with company standards, industry regulations, and HSE requirements.
  • Participate in commissioning, start-up, and optimization of new equipment, wells and facilities.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and technical staff.
  • Manage engineering studies, technical projects, and technology improvement initiatives.
  • Develop and update operating procedures, technical documentation, and best practices.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of petroleum production technology, well performance, and surface production operations.
  • Expertise in nodal analysis and production modelling software (e.g., PROSPER, GAP, PIPESIM or equivalent).
  • Strong knowledge of artificial lift systems, well completions, and well integrity management.
  • Understanding of reservoir engineering fundamentals, well testing, and production chemistry.
  • Expertise in production optimization and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Proficiency in production monitoring, data analysis, and performance reporting.
  • Knowledge of automation, control systems, and industrial technologies.
  • Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills.
  • Project management and technical leadership capabilities.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Knowledge of HSE standards and risk management practices.
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making abilities.
  • Proficiency in engineering software and Microsoft Office applications.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Master's degree is an advantage.
  • Professional certifications related to production technology, project management, or process improvement are preferred.

Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in production technology, production optimization, production operations and well performance engineering within the oil and gas industry.
  • Hands-on experience in artificial lift design and optimization, well interventions, stimulation, and workover operations.
  • Field experience with production surveillance, well testing, and production data management systems.
  • Proven experience in production optimization and process improvement projects.
  • Experience with production technologies, automation systems, and operational excellence programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical investigations and solve complex operational problems.
  • Experience in managing multidisciplinary engineering projects is preferred.
  • Previous experience in mentoring engineers and technical personnel is an advantage.

Work Environment:

  • Office based working environment, visits to the field are required.
  • Regular interaction with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams.
  • Frequent field visits to wells, production facilities and equipment.
  • May require working outside normal business hours during shutdowns, start-ups, or emergency situations.
  • Compliance with all safety regulations, company policies, and site-specific requirements.
