- World Refugee Day Event...
Last Tuesday, 20 June 2023, was #World Refugee Day.
@Gulfsands was honoured to sponsor a fantastic fundraising event at the prestigious @Conrad St James Hotel to help recognise and raise awareness of the millions of people who have been forced to flee their homes due to persecution, war, natural disasters, violence and human rights abuses.
In the last 10 years, the number of displaced people in the world has doubled to over 100 million (according to @UNHCR), creating the largest humanitarian crisis since WW2.
As an organisation, Gulfsands has decided to dedicate its attention to supporting education for the next generation, to help equip these young people to build a better future. Gulfsands partnered with @The Chaffinch Trust and specialist STEM-based educational charity, @Phoenix Space, for this very special event.
Gulfsands believes that STEM-based learning is a vital educational initiative, giving young people the skills and tools to empower and enable them to contribute to their communities, especially in a technologically led future.
During the evening, it was inspiring to hear from keynote speaker @Sir Alan Duncan KCMG as well as Gulfsands CEO @John Bell, Chaffinch Trust Chairman @Ben Goss OBE MVO and Phoenix Space CEO @Alevtina Nepomniachtchikh. Guests were also treated to a gourmet menu specially crafted by Conrad Head Chef @Sally Abe.
We would like to express our sincerest gratitude to all the attendees, speakers and volunteers who made the evening such a success.
In commenting, Gulfsands CEO John Bell said:
“What a wonderful evening!! Gulfsands is delighted to support this World Refugee Day event, to help raise awareness about the millions of people forced to flee their homes. A focus on educational programmes is critical for young people facing the risk of becoming a lost generation, and we are proud to play a small part in what needs to be a global effort.”
